More About the Artist

Emily Maddox is an oil painter from Louisville, Kentucky, drawn to art from an early age.
Raised by a creative mother and father, and inspired by time spent with her grandmothers—painting watercolors, watching birds, making jewelry, exploring fashion, and feeling deeply supported in her creativity—she found herself naturally drawn to creative spaces, from early art classrooms to lively elementary libraries and music classes.

In high school, she began oil painting, guided by teachers who encouraged her to “see color, put it in.” She later studied marketing and design at the University of Kentucky, where she continued to explore photography, videography, and painting courses.

Over the past five years, Emily has lived throughout Utah, Colorado, and Wyoming, spending time in mountain towns and frequently visiting local galleries. While working in roles such as real estate photography and ski marketing, she found herself continuing to lean into creative work and environments.

With each move, she began to notice how different places shaped her perspective, influencing both her style and the subjects she was drawn to, such as mountains, deserts, and rivers. Inspired by her surroundings, her family, and an appreciation for nature, she returned to oil painting through florals—finding the process both grounding and intuitive.

Her work continues to evolve, balancing a desire for looseness with an instinct for detail. Through her paintings, she hopes to create pieces that feel lasting—artwork that lives in homes, is passed down over time, and brings a sense of warmth and familiarity to the spaces it inhabits.

As her practice grows, she looks forward to exploring new subjects, including landscapes, animals, and more abstract forms, while continuing to create meaningful work for others.
